Gravity's Edge
Jared D. Edgar
I'm currently seeking publication for my 99,000-word queer sci-fi romance novel, Gravity's Edge. Click here to be notified by email when Gravity's Edge is available to read.
On the surface, Gravity's Edge is a sci-fi adventure story, but the real action is in the three leads and their polyamorous relationship. This is genre fiction that stays rooted in relatable characters and emotional stakes.
Gravity's Edge follows Tarquin, a young cadet who yearns for music, beauty, and kindness. He's desperate to escape the militarized world he's stuck in—the Phaestian Republic, an authoritarian regime that wields advanced technology in hideous ways to control its citizens and territories. With his deployment to the front lines steadily approaching, Tarquin knows he must flee before he's consumed by a war he never chose.
An orphan and an outsider, Tarquin navigates a world of shifting loyalties and brutal survival, forging unexpected bonds along the way: with a champion fighter of the Republic's half-gravity fighting pits and with a rogue pirate of the underseas. Together, they face the Republic's relentless dangers, including gravitonics strikes that literally turn their world upside down and a city collapsing from the skies—all while grappling with the dynamics of their emerging polyamorous relationship. What begins as one man's desperate flight from tyranny unfolds into a story of three men who are fiercely committed to each other and to staying alive.

Praise for Gravity's Edge:
"Gravity's Edge is a gripping romantic adventure that takes place in an inventive and disturbing dystopia. This is a novel that delves deep into both light and dark: the connections between the three central characters are nothing short of electric and the portrayal of polyamory is heartwarming while still being grounded in reality. At the same time, the technological terrors and deadly action scenes pulled me into the story with centrifugal force. Imaginative, energetic, and at times deeply tragic, Jared D. Edgar's first novel will thrill lovers of queer romance, alongside readers looking for some solid speculative worldbuilding."
- Dr. Redfern Jon Barrett, author
Comps: Gravity's Edge combines the high-action sci-fi of Some Desperate Glory with the irreverent voice and queer intimacy of Gideon the Ninth. It also has a lot of romantic spice. Think Winter's Orbit meets Heated Rivalry.
About me: Like Tarquin, I grew up an outsider—the gay kid in a conservative Appalachian town. I eventually left to forge a new life, and as an adult on the West Coast, I have found a chosen family that celebrates queer identity, unconventional love, and polyamory.
